Q What do you do?

I am a freelance graphic designer and poster artist based in Athens, Greece. My creative focus is on creating visual communication materials, which span from brand identity and editorial design to print advertising and social media content.

Drawing on a blend of creativity and extensive practical experience, my goal is to provide solutions that enhance the visibility of individuals, start-ups, and established businesses.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

During my teenage years, I developed a keen interest in graffiti and tagging. The vibrant street art scene in Athens influenced my aesthetic, particularly my fascination with typography and poster design and their central role in public spaces. I pursued a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design at Vakalo College and continued my education with a Master of Arts in Visual Communication. After transitioning from academia to hands-on experience, I have been actively engaged on social media, collaborated with other creatives, taken on various projects, and curated a portfolio that showcases my style and capabilities in the field.

Q How do you stand out in your field?

I stand out by placing high importance on typography and language in my designs. Simplicity and clarity are among my top priorities, ensuring that every element contributes to a cohesive visual experience. Ultimately, my ambition is to create designs that leave a bold impression by skillfully exploiting the subtle nuances of words, symbols, and the interplay of shapes and colors.

Q What are you working on right now?

I am currently working on several projects, including designing new posters, collaborating with a close friend on a branding and web design venture, and creating graphics for a company's social media platforms. Additionally, I explore web design techniques and keep up with the latest industry practices. Since the beginning of 2023, I have had the privilege of being a member of the judging panel of Awwwards. I get immense satisfaction and knowledge from reviewing websites. Most importantly, I'm working with Richard Mandona to extend the award-winning free font Vercetti Regular. The first version is already available for download for those interested.

Q What’s your style?

To start my creative process, I gather and analyze a variety of ideas. I then refine and abstract these concepts, drawing inspiration from both the International Typographic Style and the principles of linguistics.

My goal in today's saturated environment is to create designs that possess a timeless quality while remaining relevant to contemporary sensibilities. These design results are intended to resonate with a diverse audience by communicating through a universal language.

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

I have always longed to spend more time on writing and photography as they bring me immense joy and inspiration. Additionally, I am passionate about collaborating with educational institutions, whether through design projects or teaching opportunities. I am truly excited about exploring new opportunities for growth in these areas.

Q What is frustrating you right now?

Balancing personal life, professional development, financial stability and long hours in front of screens can indeed be a challenge. However, as a freelance graphic designer, I have learned to deftly navigate these obstacles. Thriving in this highly competitive field requires adaptability and effective prioritization. Flexibility is key to managing the demands of this profession while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

I would definitely benefit from assistance with repetitive administrative duties to free up valuable time. Managing social media interactions, organizing files, and handling email can consume a significant portion of my day. Having support with these responsibilities would allow me to focus more on my creative work and overall productivity.

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

I would emphasize the importance of accepting failure as an integral part of personal growth. Despite setting high goals early in my career, the fear of failure often hindered my progress. I wish I had realized earlier that failure is not something to be feared but rather a critical process for learning.

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

If given the chance to seek guidance from an expert to deepen my understanding of any topic, I would opt to explore the significance of maintaining composure under pressure and fostering inner peace. I am particularly drawn to individuals who possess spiritual wisdom, as I believe they can offer invaluable guidance through life's stressful moments.

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

I actively pursue opportunities to collaborate with businesses, aiming to strengthen their corporate identity, enhance brand visibility on online platforms, and introduce new products to the market. My services include logo design, advertising, web design, packaging, and more. I am available to work with clients locally in Greece, across Europe, and worldwide.

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

Ideally, I seek a partnership with an organization that wholeheartedly embraces innovation and welcomes change. They should have the curiosity to explore new ideas and push creativity to its fullest potential. Clear communication and mutual respect will be the backbone of our partnership, creating an environment where both parties feel valued, appreciated and inspired throughout the process.

Q What is your rate?

My fees are tailored to the unique requirements of each project, taking into account factors such as complexity and scope, which significantly affect cost. Prospective clients are encouraged to contact and discuss the details of their project, allowing us to jointly determine the most appropriate approach.

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

If you are interested in starting a new project or scheduling a consultation with me, please contact me by email at info@filipposfragkogiannis.com or through the contact page on my website. Providing your project budget up front is beneficial as it ensures alignment from the start.
