Q What do you do?

Click around on the computer and make things look pretty.

Come up with concepts and deliver them to the powers that be so they can be executed in a photoshoot.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

I'm entirely self-taught, so I didn't go to college for art or design. When I graduated, I hustled into internships and learned as much as possible from the designers who mentored me. I leveled up and eventually grew to become the designer I am now— now I'm the one who is mentoring junior designers. It feels good to pay it back!

Q How do you stand out in your field?

I approach design with a sense of silliness and fun. Since I am self-taught, design is not arduous for me—I bring childlike wonder and enthusiasm to my work, and that follows through in everything. This ethos allows me to stand out!

Q What are you working on right now?

Updating my website, portfolio, and resume after two years!

Q What’s your style?

I'm starting a project called Fat Majestic (I'm not even sure what it is yet!) and all I have is this massive moodboard on Pinterest of images https://www.pinterest.com/doryvalentines/aes-fat-majestic/fm-mood/

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

Art Direction! I would love to get onto sets and see where the magic happens way more often

Q What is frustrating you right now?

The expectations for designers to be design "generalists" instead of design specialists. Not getting to focus on a specific area does a disservice to our industry in the long run!

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

Project manage! But I'd probably pay them more than $20/hour.

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

2018—don't get so bent out of shape: you'll get there. You'll be a graphic designer.

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

How to be more flexible when it comes to working with founders and leaders who are data-driven and ROI-focused

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

I would love to work on branding/art direction for any short-term or long-term projects.

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

Someone excited to start their project and looking forward to finding the perfect client to work with.

Q What is your rate?

$40/hr

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

rberdann@gmail.com, budget, scope, favorite animal

Q Who is a creative you admire?

Viktoria Lange, Alexa Dillon, David DaCosta

Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?

Pinterest or art museum and binging ER
