WHAT DO YOU DO?

Real New Collective is a women-led production company and creative collective that centers storytelling and collaboration.

Our filmmaking process is rooted in care, respect, and community. We offer creative direction, film direction, full-service film and photo production, editing and finishing, sound design and scoring, and much more.

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

Co-founders Tiffany Frances and Justine Sweetman have both been working in film and fashion for many years, and have cultivated strong relationships with crew and clients. We’ve built our collective portfolio by collaborating with brands and our personal networks, and pride ourselves on the community that we’ve grown.

How do you stand out in your field?

Our work is focused on challenging the status quo; we collaborate with filmmakers to tell stories that feel authentic and organic.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

We have several narrative films at different stages of production, from early concept to post. It’s been a joy to work with our collective on these projects!

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

We’re drawn to community-specific stories and moving beyond traditional formats.

Our short film My Black Alchemy was produced for MTV’s Black History Month initiative. We worked with visionary writer and director Justice Jamal Jones to explore the power of passing Black culture from generation to generation.

WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?

Storytelling is at the heart of what we do, and we’d love the opportunity to flex our writing muscles more.

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?

Finding time to devote to passion projects in between the commercial ones. There’s never quite enough hours in the day.

IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?

Seek out dynamic, diverse crew and talent to add to our roster.

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?

We would prefer not to interfere with the fabric of time and space.

IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

We’re interested in implementing more holistic practices on our productions. We’d like to talk with someone who has had success with process-focused, not results-focused, filmmaking.

WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

Opportunities to travel and highlight stories from people who often don’t have a platform. Partnering with clients who are excited about making bold creative choices.

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.

Finding a niche group to make a branded content documentary series about.

We’re inspired by authentic people: Indigenous groups reclaiming the outdoors industry. Surfers who are committed to racial justice. Modern nomads who use Dr. Bronner’s for everything. Women of color who play Dungeons & Dragons.

WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?

We like to provide a quote after discussing things a bit more first with each client. It's really important for us to get an accurate picture of what the client's vision and needs are before building our budget. Also, there may be resources a client has that we wouldn't necessarily need to write in.

HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?

HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?

Eat, drink, and shower with mindfulness.
