Q What do you do?

I write copy and create editorial content for brands. Plus, I write in the editorial space.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

I studied at FIT for undergrad, working in the Writing Studio and interning in fashion. Next, I earned my MFA in Nonfiction Writing from Bennington College. I've been working as a freelance writer + content strategist ever since.

Q How do you stand out in your field?

My professional background in fashion gives me an appreciation for style, and my credentials from a highly-rated MFA program prove I've mastered compelling storytelling.

Q What are you working on right now?

I'm refining an essay collection I started at Bennington. Plus, I've just started a weekly newsletter called Long Live—a collection of firsthand essays about (mostly) secondhand clothing.

Q What’s your style?

I love the style of Joan Didion's caption-writing at Vogue in the early 1960s. I've always thought that attention to detail, brevity and clean-cut syntax was worth striving toward.

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

In a dream world, I would spend more of my time helping friends clean out their closets and replace the old with classic pieces they *actually* want to wear.

Q What is frustrating you right now?

Open-ended conversations and loose deadlines make me feel frustrated. I'm a big believer in setting boundaries and executing the details early on for maximum creativity in the end.

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

I would have this person return books to the library, prepare my lunch, and perhaps respond to press release emails.

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

I wish I could have told my 22-year-old self that a career in writing was possible. I was miserable at a fashion job, feeling disconnected and hopeless.

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

I'm a secret wellness junkie, so I would love to talk to an expert about diet/sleep/hormones. Of course, the pragmatic response would be to talk to a tax expert.

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

Newsletter editing, paid ad copy, editorial work, product descriptions, creative strategy, one-off OMG I need a block of copy to just be better by next week, that sort of thing.

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

I'm looking for long-time clients who feel like they can come to me with any copy needs as they pop up—newsletter editing, paid ad copy, editorial work, product descriptions, etc. Plus, creative strategy roles where the synergy grows over time. I love learning about the people I'm working with, and really getting a chance to lean into each others' strengths and weaknesses.

Q: What is your rate?

Hourly rates start at $110, but I love creating project packages with pricing that makes everyone feel excited about the work ahead.

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

Write to me at veurinkerika@gmail.com with your big ideas.

instagram @emilievnolan

Emilie is a genius jewelry designer with an unmatched sense of taste.

Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?

Long walks with my phone on DND.
