Writer / Editor / Social Media Strategist
Los Angeles, CA
WHAT DO YOU DO?
My current projects include serving as editor for one of the most successful wedding blogs, founder of Conscious Shop Collective, an ethical shopping resource website, and co-owner and editor of The Blog Market, an online resource that has helped creative and aspiring writers get their own work off the ground. In the past I’ve provided editorial and social media strategy + execution for a digital agency.
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
I studied writing. I did things that were important to me, like blogging, crafting, and taking photos. I owned an Etsy shop. Eventually this creative side of me came through in my job applications, and I landed an entry level editorial job. I kept doing those things once I started freelancing. I still do those things. And people now recognize me as someone to come to for creative writing and blogging projects.
FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR FIELD, WHAT DO THEY USUALLY LACK?
Usually they have talent and energy, but lack the ambition to learn the not-so-creative stuff that comes with being successful in digital media.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
I'm working on bringing all the things I do--creative work, side projects, distant dreams--together.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
My writing style is honest but warm. I give my reader the benefit of the doubt and not assume they know or don't know something. I like to provide something, like a tip or advice, while staying in that mindset that there's always more to learn. That said, I can adopt (and polish) any other voice when the job calls for it.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
Creative writing with a capital C. The kind that doesn't pay the bills (yet). I feel a constant pull to put my writing in other forms and experiment more.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
I swear, every week I have a new idea for a creative project that feels like it just NEEDS to be pursued. It's frustrating because they're all things I want to dedicate time to.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HOUR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
I'd love to be able to sign off for certain periods of the day to just create, and have someone there as back up if anything comes up on the websites or social accounts I work on!
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
Speak up more. Be proactive. Join the conversation. Embrace community.
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
How did you get started? How did you take your ideas and finally commit? I love to hear how other writers just get going on the projects they feel the most connected to.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Always editing opportunities. Creative collaborations in writing, blogging, or photography. I love handmade and indie businesses so if you have one and want to collaborate on the creative behind it, I'm there!
WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?
Ideal collab: using my skills to promote businesses or other creatives. I love things like artist profiles, interviews, and studio tours. Getting to peek into someone else's process and share it with the world.
WHAT IS YOUR RATE?
Hourly for small or short term copywriting/editing projects. For larger projects, we can work out a flat rate based on your needs and timeline.
HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?
Just shoot me an email! If you have a clear vision, let me know, if not, maybe we can find a way to work together that neither of us have thought of yet.
HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?
I go on walks. Lots and lots of walks.
