WHAT DO YOU DO?

As a Visual, UI/UX Designer & Illustrator I design apps, websites, portals, experiences, spaces, campaigns, packaging, brands.

I do a lot of thinking and strategizing around my work and the projects I do. I really enjoy doing UX research and analysis, and using that to inform my design decisions. I feel that research makes design more enjoyable, effective and beautiful. I am also a very skilled at graphic work and do intensive Photoshop and Illustrator work, as well as freehand illustration.

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

What steps didn’t I take to get here? I lived in NYC for 17 years and during that time worked my art degree into first a career in web design, then a career in textile design, and now I’ve run my own design business for a few years. Along the way I’ve taken classes in writing, business, design, and art. I’ve always searched for work that challenges me and uses my skills to the fullest.

FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR FIELD, WHAT DO THEY USUALLY LACK?

I’ve done a lot of different jobs and worked in small groups, in large corporate environments, and for myself. I am able to bring many creative and strategic skills and years of experience to the table, which makes me unique.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

Right now I’m working on:
- A design project for a long time fashion client in New York City.
- A project for breast cancer and domestic violence awareness with Nerve Group in NYC.
- An illustrated lecture series on key UX principles, using my graphic recording skills.
- I am working with a group of User Centered Designers in Seattle to create a format for collaborative projects, including group structure and protocols for working together on various projects. We would like to focus on projects for social good and have ongoing collaborations with a wide network of talented and inspired individuals.
- Working as a UX/UI Designer re-branding an LA on-demand delivery company and re-designing their website
- Working with an e-commerce fashion site to as as UX/UI Designer to assess usability and shopping cart abandonment issues.

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

As far as style goes, I like a clean, modern style. I am very sensitive to the message design conveys, and always strive to hit the right note. I personally enjoy hint of handmade, hand touched elements in a digital space, because it can set a brand apart with a unique perspective. Feel free to look at my portfolio for examples of my work:

WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?

I’d like to be able to focus on UX/UI for emerging technologies. I’m very interested in AR and AI, and it would be fascinating to do user experience research and design for things that are just being developed and to help that process evolve.

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?

I lived in NYC for 17 years, and having recently moved to LA I miss the network I developed there, both socially and professionally. I would like to be more involved in the UX/UI community, but it’s been difficult to access, especially on the East Side. Going to events has been bumped by other commitments, but I want to connect and get involved!

IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?

I’d have them keep my house clean and water my plants so my home is an uncluttered place where I can relax and that I love to be.

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?

I wish I could have told my high school self to go to college and get a PhD. Then I would have had that degree early on, and it would have changed the course of my life. I've never regretted spending time on education.

IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

I’m always interested in talking with experts about human behavior, because I’m endlessly fascinated by relationships.

WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

I’m looking for design projects. I am able to bring UX, UI and visual design skills to a variety of projects. I can work with your company on client work, or your business. We can make websites or apps, do interaction design or interface design or both. I have a lot of skills and am happy for opportunities to contribute across the board. I like to work closely with a team in a somewhat collaborative structure.

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.

I have an amazing relationship with one of my long time clients. He was the creative director at the last corporate job I had, and we both went on to other things and have continued to work together over the last 6 years. We’ve worked on a range of projects, but the wonderfully consistent aspect has been deep mutual respect for the other’s talents and skills. I am always thankful and delighted to work with him. He is a creative himself, and approaches our work together from the position of trust and collaboration. I strive to have these sorts of mutually beneficial and respectful relationships with the people I work with.

WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?

I am looking for a salary around 75k. I charge around $45/ hr for freelance work.

HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?

Feel free to email me! It is great to know upfront about the scope, budget and location of the project.

HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?

Breathe / imagine / Swim / heart Overflows
