WHAT DO YOU DO?

I write. I write for freedom, for a breath of fresh air, for growth, for therapy, for work.

I write creatively with poetry and songwriting. I have also contributed to blogs, social media content, and marketing content for tech giants like Fitbit and Google. I have also done music video reviews, album reviews, and contribution for urban online magazines.

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

I think the first step was removing myself from anything that was not inspirational. I began to study more art, poetry, and writers that inspire me. I also began to hang out with people who have so much knowledge and passion. That kind of stuff is addicting for the soul. Then it became a matter of practicing and exposing my work for feedback. I made it a point to journal at least once a day, read once a day, and write poetry 2-3 times a week. The hardest step, but the most rewarding step, was sharing with others.

FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR FIELD, WHAT DO THEY USUALLY LACK?

I don't think I can judge that. I think each writer has their own particular struggles depending on style. Two things I do think are imperative, though, are research and passion.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

I am working on two different musicians' wikipedia pages, artist's biography, and a piece on the pros and cons of prop 64.

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

I think I have a Charles Bukowski style. A lot of my pieces on my Instagram show a shamelessly confident, laid back, fearless and honest insight into my world but at the same time, I have no problem being vulnerable.

WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?

Editorial work.

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?

My current job does not allow much room for creativity. Being a creative, this can be problematic because it almost makes me feel trapped and detached from my own feelings. Making sure I don't stay stuck in that feeling can be frustrating and somewhat of a daily battle.

IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?

I would have them be my post-its holder. They would walk with me everywhere with all my post its of things I need to be reminded of.

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?

I wish I could have told myself to never stop writing when I was about 10 years old. I feel like I wasted a lot of time not writing and developing my creative abilities.

IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

How to get in tune with your inner self to write better and how to find the right moments to stay focused when writing.

WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

Full time (Los Angeles) or freelancing. I can do songwriting, poetry, content contribution and blogging.

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.

Anyone with a vision and passion and in need of a writer. Whether the job requires songwriting, social media content, or blogging, or all three, I can always work with a hard worker who believes in my work and in themselves.

My email is silvanadlezama@gmail.com

WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?

My hourly rate is $42 an hour or $50 - $200 depending on the piece (how many words, research, and deadline). I am always up for discussing rate.

HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?

I just want honesty and a genuine interest. No gimmicks, please!

HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?

I find myself in losing myself in the world's creativity, even when we don't see it.
