UX + Web Designer / Product Strategist
My passion is interactive storytelling through mediums like AR/VR/MR. I'm also driven by simple, elegant, and delightful user experiences that always advocate for the end-user at every touch point. My design process is holistic, meaning the sum of all parts is interconnected, and am genuinely fascinated by people, cultures, communicating, and listening. I've been freelancing since becoming a first-time dad in the summer of 2015 and have had the pleasure of working with such diverse clients as Techstars, Heavy Projects, Leroy&Rose, and Greenlight Media.
WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?
After years of being a motivated self-taught visual designer I joined the General Assembly community and plunged head first into UX Design in 2015.
FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR FIELD, WHAT DO THEY USUALLY LACK?
Equal parts empathy and curiosity... don't take a shortcut and NOT research your users. Go out there and talk to them.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
I recently founded a unique service that bridges experience design + mindfulness + tech + tea ceremony. It's called Teaspace.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?
Immersive storytelling, less-is-more.
WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?
More Augmented Reality.
WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?
Valuing a passion/hobby that's as nuanced as tea. I have a mission statement and years of experience, but lack a price point and willing participants in this particular industry.
IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HOUR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?
Talk to community managers at enterprise/agency companies and start book Teaspace experiences.
LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?
I have no regrets, but if I could've told myself to go out and network more 18-months ago that would've helped.
IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
Finding roles and clients while working.
WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Full-time or contract based roles in UX / Interaction Design
WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL CLIENT?
I worked with a distributed AR startup in California and the UK. We worked remotely in sync and used the time difference to our advantage and launched an iOS and Android app after a 5 week sprint. That being said I'm not solely looking for a remote opportunity. What's ideal is a culture fit and a shared belief system.
WHAT IS YOUR RATE?
$75 per hour depending on project scope
HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?
Just reach out to me: phone, e-mail, tweet, instagram, text, message-in-a-bottle, etc. I find that offering a budget upfront without a project scope is often tricky. Let's keep the conversation organic, even if it's formulaic, talk about the idea, and draft a scope, then let's line up the numbers.
HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?
Digital detox via Gongfu Tea Ceremony.
